About Us
Karen's first experience with sewing, was on a Singer treadle making slip covers with her mom, replete with zippers and piping, at six years of age. Many years later, Bob's dad, a Singer Dealer, converted that treadle to electricity. She has been making and designing her own clothes for decades, as well as home decorating projects and scrap quilts. Embroidery truly added to the creative mix! She also is primary support for all things digital at make it sew.
Bob began working a technical job for Singer in 1977, discovering more about his Dad's attraction to sewing machines. He became an independent contractor to local dealers, gaining factory training from all the other brands of machines. Eight years at a six-line dealer made him aware of how differing manufacturing philosophies produced machines with different strengths and weaknesses. For 23 years he serviced at an average rate of 1,000 units per year. The name of his repair business evolved around 1995 and grew into a retail business in 2000. A Viking Tech gave him the name, "make it sew, Bob."
Our business philosophy has been heavily education oriented. Karen's decades of sewing coupled with Bob's decades on the sewing machine bench have provided a unique and in depth knowledge base which they not only share with employee's and customers, but occasionally with their local competitors. Bob regularly is invited to make presentations to local sewing guilds.
